Garage With an Open Shutter or Monsoon Dampness
Most Ahmedabad garages fall into this category — the shutter stays open during the day, and monsoon humidity or splash-back reaches the lower half of the wall. MR Grade (Moisture Resistant) plywood is the safer default here. It handles occasional dampness without swelling and costs only a little more than Commercial grade.
Garage Used for Washing Vehicles or Storing Near a Damp Wall
If water regularly splashes the wall — from washing a bike or car, or from an exterior wall that seeps during heavy rain — upgrade to BWP (Boiling Water Proof) grade Marine Plywood. It is built to withstand continuous moisture without delaminating.
If you would be comfortable leaving a cardboard box sitting against that wall overnight without worrying about it going soft, Commercial or MR grade is fine. If you wouldn't, go with BWP.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Buying by Price Alone
The cheapest sheet on the shelf is almost always Commercial grade — fine for a fully dry garage, but the wrong choice the moment the shutter is left open through a monsoon. Decide the grade from your garage's exposure first, then shop for price within that grade.
Skipping a Batten Frame on Brick or Block Walls
Screwing plywood directly into masonry with plugs alone gives a weaker, less even fixing than mounting it onto a wooden batten frame first. A proper batten frame also creates an air gap behind the panel, which helps the plywood dry out faster if it does get damp.
Ignoring the Bottom Edge
Floor-level splash-back and monsoon water pooling near the base of the wall is the single most common failure point for garage plywood. Leave a small gap between the panel and the floor, and seal the bottom edge, even on an otherwise dry-side garage.
Overspacing Pegboard Screw Points
Fixing a pegboard at only its four corners lets the panel bow outward under the weight of loaded hooks. Add intermediate fixing points every 40–50cm across the panel for a pegboard that stays flat over years of use.
