Three Boards, Three Different Jobs

Plan a kitchen or bathroom in Ahmedabad and you'll hear three answers: BWP plywood, WPC board or PVC foam board. Each is right somewhere. PVC and WPC are made from plastic (WPC adds wood fibre), so water and termites simply don't affect them. Plywood is real wood glued in cross layers, so it is the strongest and holds screws best, but its water resistance depends on the grade and on sealing the edges.

We stock all three (Flexibond PVC and WPC, and Greenply, CenturyPly and Royale Touche plywood), so this is a straight comparison with our own rates, followed by a room-by-room verdict. For deeper one-to-one comparisons, see PVC vs WPC, WPC vs plywood and PVC board vs plywood.

So, Which Material Lasts Longer?

In a wet spot, PVC and WPC outlast plywood, because there is no wood to swell and no glue line to fail. A PVC sink base will still be fine after a slow leak that would ruin even good plywood. In a dry room, plywood outlasts both in the ways that matter: it holds hinges and screws for decades, carries load without sagging, and can be repaired. Most well-built Ahmedabad kitchens now combine them: PVC or WPC for the sink unit and bathroom vanity, BWP plywood for the rest of the kitchen, and MR plywood for wardrobes.

Working tips

PVC: use screws made for PVC or nylon inserts, support long shelves every 2 ft or so, and keep it away from the hob. WPC: pre-drill, don't over-tighten, and remember its weight when choosing hinges. Plywood: edge-band every edge and laminate both faces; in wet zones use BWP only. Not sure about MDF in a kitchen? See is MDF waterproof?. Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better: plywood, WPC or PVC board?

It depends on where it goes. PVC and WPC are better in wet spots like sink bases and bathroom vanities because they are waterproof. Plywood is better in dry rooms and for kitchen carcasses because it is stronger and holds screws best.

Which lasts longer in a kitchen?

PVC or WPC under the sink, BWP plywood for the rest of the kitchen. Combining them gives the longest-lasting kitchen.

Is WPC stronger than PVC board?

Yes. WPC is denser and stiffer, with better screw holding, but heavier and costlier. PVC is lighter and cheaper but can sag on long spans.

What is the price of 18 mm WPC, PVC and plywood?

At our store, 18 mm Flexibond WPC is ₹146 per sq ft, Flexibond PVC ₹138 (Standard) or ₹105 (Gold), marine BWP plywood ₹110 and MR plywood ₹74, GST extra.

Does PVC board hold screws?

Less well than plywood. Use screws made for PVC or nylon inserts and avoid heavy point loads.

Is plywood waterproof?

BWP / marine plywood has a waterproof glue line, but raw edges must be sealed. MR and commercial plywood are not for wet areas.
