Add laminate from about ₹9,205 for plywood, HDHMR and particle board (see laminate for kitchen cabinets). PVC and WPC boards have a finished surface, so laminate is optional there, which narrows the gap. Hardware, countertop and labour are extra. The Combination We Recommend
For most Ahmedabad kitchens: marine BWP plywood for the base units and sink base, MR plywood for wall units, 12 mm BWP for shelves, 9 mm BWP for backs, and 1 mm laminate on the shutters. That came to ₹34,816 in boards for a 10 ft kitchen. If you want painted or grooved shutters, swap the shutters to HDHMR. If the kitchen gets very wet or termites are a worry, use PVC or WPC for the sink base at least. Thickness for each part: plywood thickness for kitchen cabinets.

Using MR or particle board under the sink; leaving cut edges unsealed; mixing up moisture resistant (HDHMR, HMR) with waterproof (BWP, PVC, WPC); choosing high gloss for a busy cooking kitchen; buying unbranded board to save a few thousand rupees; and forgetting that hardware quality (hinges, channels) decides how the kitchen feels every day.
