PVC Board vs Plywood: Strength, Lifespan and Where to Use Each
PVC foam board is fully waterproof and termite-proof, so it has become popular for bathroom vanities, sink units and balcony cabinets. Plywood is stronger, holds screws better and carries heavy loads, so it still rules wardrobes, kitchens and beds. What is PVC foam board?
A rigid, lightweight board made from expanded polyvinyl chloride, 5–24 mm thick, sold in 8 × 4 ft sheets. It does not absorb water, rot or attract termites, and its white surface can be used as it is or laminated. We stock Flexibond PVC board; see Flexibond PVC foam board.
What is plywood?
Thin wood veneers glued in cross layers, which makes it strong in every direction. Grades decide water resistance: MR for dry rooms, BWR for humidity and BWP (marine) for wet areas. See plywood and MR vs BWR vs BWP.

Before GST, hardware, counter and labour. For a plain white vanity, PVC board is competitive and never swells. If you want a woodgrain or coloured finish, laminated BWP plywood is similar in cost and stronger.

Working With PVC Board
Use PVC-compatible adhesive and sharp, fine-tooth blades. Pre-drill and use coarse-thread screws, and avoid fixing close to edges. Add supports every 2 ft under shelves, and choose 18 mm or thicker for load-bearing sides. Keep it away from direct heat such as a hob or geyser outlet.
