CenturyPly vs Greenply — An Even-Handed Comparison
We sell both brands from the same counter, so we have no reason to push one over the other. Here is how they actually compare on grades, price and what each is known for.
Two of India's Best-Known Plywood Brands
CenturyPly and Greenply are both large, established Indian plywood manufacturers, and both are stocked at Samta Plywood Centre because both are reliable choices — the "better" one genuinely depends on the specific product line, the grade you need, and your budget for that particular part of the project.
This page is not a sales pitch for either brand. We carry both, we sell both every week, and this comparison uses the same rates published on our own CenturyPly page and plywood price list — nothing invented for this page.
What Each Brand Is Known For
Both brands manufacture cross-laminated plywood to Indian Standard specifications (IS 303 for MR/Commercial grades, IS 710 for BWP/marine grades). The reputation difference is in specific strengths, not overall quality.
Market Leader, Named Product Lines
CenturyPly sells plywood under distinct branded lines rather than generic grade names — Sainik MR, Sainik 710 (BWP), Bond Shield 21 and Club Prime, each with its own warranty tier and price point. The brand is particularly well known in the Ahmedabad trade for borer and termite resistance, treated as standard across its ranges.
We stock all four CenturyPly lines with published, thickness-wise pricing — see the individual price lists linked below.
KNOWN FOR: Borer/termite resistance, named warranty tiers, wide finish optionsIndia's #1 Brand by Volume, Consistent Quality
Greenply is widely regarded — including in our own plywood FAQ — for consistent sheet thickness and a smooth, even face veneer, batch to batch. At Samta Plywood Centre, Greenply is stocked within our house Commercial, MR Grade and Marine (BWP) categories, alongside CenturyPly, Royal Touch and Season Plywood in the same grades.
Greenply is also the brand behind our full MDF board range (Interior, Exterior, HDMR and Boilo) — see the Action Tesa vs Greenply MDF comparison if you are choosing MDF rather than plywood.
KNOWN FOR: Thickness consistency, smooth veneer finish, wide grade availabilityPrice Comparison, 18mm
CenturyPly's named lines are priced as distinct products with their own warranty tier built in. Greenply is stocked within Samta's house grade categories — the numbers below are our published counter rates for both, at 18mm, ex-godown and excluding GST.
| Grade Tier | CenturyPly Line | 18mm Rate | Greenply-Stocked Equivalent | 18mm Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Interior / dry areas | Sainik MR | ₹94/sq ft | MR Grade (house category) | ₹74/sq ft |
| Waterproof / kitchen | Sainik 710 (BWP) | ₹116.10/sq ft | Marine / BWP (house category) | ₹110/sq ft |
| Designer BWP | Bond Shield 21 | ₹136/sq ft | — | No direct Greenply equivalent published |
| Premium BWP | Club Prime | ₹154/sq ft | — | No direct Greenply equivalent published |
CenturyPly rates are from our CenturyPly price reference and the individual Sainik MR, Sainik 710 BWP, Bond Shield 21 and Club Prime price lists. Greenply-stocked house grade rates are from our plywood price list for Ahmedabad. Rates move with the market — call 8460783619 for today's confirmed price.
Why the gap: CenturyPly's Sainik and Bond Shield/Club Prime lines carry a named, longer warranty and are marketed as premium branded products, which is reflected in the per-sq-ft price over our generic house-grade rate. That does not mean Greenply plywood is inferior — the house-grade categories are stocked from multiple brands including Greenply at a shared price point, while CenturyPly's specific lines are priced individually because they are sold as distinct branded SKUs. Ask us which specific brand is in stock for the house-grade sheet on the day you buy.
Which Brand for Which Job
-
Budget-Conscious Bedroom or Office Furniture
For dry-area furniture where the grade requirement is basic (Commercial or MR), the house-grade rate applies regardless of which brand is on the sheet that week, and it is the more economical route.
CONSIDER: Greenply-stocked house Commercial/MR grade — ₹38–₹74/sq ft depending on thickness. -
Kitchen Carcass With a Named Warranty
If you specifically want CenturyPly's named Sainik 710 BWP line with its documented borer treatment and warranty paperwork for a kitchen fit-out, that is a reasonable premium to pay for the peace of mind.
CONSIDER: CenturyPly Sainik 710 BWP — ₹116.10/sq ft at 18mm. -
Large Multi-Flat Project With Batch Consistency Requirements
When you are ordering dozens of sheets that all need to match in thickness for a large project, Greenply's reputation for batch consistency is a genuine practical advantage — fewer mismatched hardware fits across units.
CONSIDER: Greenply-stocked house grade, ordered in one batch where possible. -
High-End, Design-Forward Interior
CenturyPly's Bond Shield 21 and Club Prime lines are positioned as premium/designer BWP products, sold with the assumption the buyer wants the top warranty tier available and is not price-sensitive at the margin.
CONSIDER: CenturyPly Club Prime — ₹154/sq ft at 18mm.
