How to Measure for a Flush Door
1. Measure the frame opening, not the wall gap: inside the chaukhat, from the top of the frame to the finished floor level, and across at the top, middle and bottom. 2. Use the smallest width and height you measured. 3. Allow clearance: the shutter is usually about 3–5 mm less than the opening on each side and at the top, with 6–10 mm at the bottom (more if a rug or threshold is planned). 4. Check the floor level: if tiles or marble are still to be laid, measure to the finished height. 5. Note the thickness so the frame rebate matches: 30, 32 or 35 mm.
Door Frame (Chaukhat) Sizes
The frame opening is the shutter size plus clearance. A 7 × 3 ft shutter needs an opening of about 7 ft ¼ in × 3 ft ¼ in. Common frame sections are about 4 × 2.5 in for internal doors and 5 × 2.5 in or larger for main doors, in teak, sal or engineered frames. We supply timber for frames; see our timber and wood price list.
Choosing the Right Size
Bedrooms need 3 ft to move a wardrobe or bed in easily. Bathrooms at 2.5 ft save wall space, but go to 2.75–3 ft if an elderly family member or a wheelchair user needs access. Main doors at 3.5 ft or wider feel welcoming and make moving furniture easy. Tall doors (7.5–8 ft) look modern but need 35 mm thickness and good hinges to stay straight.
Which Flush Door for Each Size
Larger and heavier doors need a stronger core. Use 35 mm BWP for main doors and anything over 7 × 3.5 ft, 32 mm BWP for bathrooms, kitchens and balconies, and 30 mm MR for dry internal doors.
