Door Frame (Chaukhat) Price in Ahmedabad
Timber is sold by the cubic foot, which makes frame prices hard to compare. Here is what a chaukhat actually costs for standard door sizes in Burma, Sudan and Ghana teak, and in WPC for bathrooms, worked out from our current counter rates.
A Door Is Only as Good as Its Chaukhat
The frame (chaukhat) carries the hinges, takes every slam and sits on a floor that gets mopped every day. A cheap frame that twists in the monsoon will make even an expensive shutter stick and gap. In Ahmedabad the choice comes down to two families: solid timber (teak for durability, meranti for budget internal doors) and WPC, which does not rot or swell at the base and is the safe pick for bathrooms.
Timber frames are priced by the cubic foot (ghan foot), so the useful number is not the rate but the cost of the frame you actually need. Below we work it out for standard door sizes, using our current timber rates and a 15% cutting allowance. WPC frames are priced by the running foot, which makes them simpler to cost.
Door Frame Price by Size and Wood
Two jambs plus the head, section as shown, 15% wastage. Timber only: before GST, threshold, fixing and labour.
| Frame | Section | Timber with wastage | Burma teak | Sudan teak | Ghana teak special | Ghana teak |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 × 2.5 ft bathroom | 4 × 2.5 in | 1.32 cft | ₹10,560–12,540 | ₹3,960–4,620 | ₹3,696–3,960 | ₹2,904–3,168 |
| 7 × 3 ft bedroom | 4 × 2.5 in | 1.36 cft | ₹10,880–12,920 | ₹4,080–4,760 | ₹3,808–4,080 | ₹2,992–3,264 |
| 7 × 3 ft, heavier | 5 × 2.5 in | 1.7 cft | ₹13,600–16,150 | ₹5,100–5,950 | ₹4,760–5,100 | ₹3,740–4,080 |
| 7 × 3.5 ft main door | 5 × 2.5 in | 1.75 cft | ₹14,000–16,625 | ₹5,250–6,125 | ₹4,900–5,250 | ₹3,850–4,200 |
How we work it out: a 7 × 3 ft frame has 17 running feet (7 + 7 + 3). A 4 × 2.5 in section is 10 sq in, or 0.069 sq ft. 17 × 0.069 = 1.18 cft, plus 15% wastage = 1.36 cft. Multiply by the rate per cft. A bottom threshold adds roughly another 3 running feet.

Getting a Frame That Stays True
Use seasoned timber. Freshly sawn wood shrinks and twists after fixing; buy seasoned stock and let it sit in the room for a few days before fitting. Treat and seal the back face that goes against the wall. It is the side that picks up moisture from fresh plaster. Keep the frame off the wet floor in bathrooms, or use WPC. Fix the frame before plaster and flooring are finished, and protect it during the rest of the work. Match the shutter: frame depth should suit the door thickness (30, 32 or 35 mm) and the hinges.
Frame plus shutter
Most homes pair a teak or WPC frame with a ready-made flush door: about ₹2,520 for a 7 × 3 ft, 30 mm MR double-core shutter, or ₹3,724 for a 7 × 3.5 ft, 35 mm BWP main door. Shutter prices are on our flush door price list; finished laminated doors are on laminated flush door price; everything for a whole home is on door price in Ahmedabad. Standard sizes are in the flush door size chart.

Teak, for its natural oils that resist termites and water. Burma or Sudan teak for main doors exposed to weather, Ghana teak for everyday internal frames, and WPC for bathrooms.

What size section should a door frame be?
4 × 2.5 in suits most internal doors. Use 5 × 2.5 in for main doors and tall or heavy doors that need a stiffer frame.
