About Ivory Coast (CP) Teak
Ivory Coast teak — called CP teak in the trade, after Côte d'Ivoire — is African teak from the west coast. It is genuine teak: hard, oil-bearing and termite-resistant, and it sits at the affordable end of the teak range, typically a little below Ghana teak.
It is the timber to look at when you want teak durability for frames or furniture on a tight budget and are happy to accept a touch more grain and colour variation. For cleaner grain step up to Ghana Teak Special; for the benchmark, Burma teak. For non-teak economy, Meranti is cheaper still but not as durable.
