Timber Merchant in Ahmedabad
Seasoned teak and natural timber at Lati Bazar. Burma, Ghana and Sudan teak, Meranti, Pine and White Ash — sawn to size for door frames, furniture and joinery, alongside our plywood and laminate counters.
Our Timber Range
Nine timbers, from economy pine to premium Burma teak. Which one is right depends on where the wood is going, how long it needs to last and what the budget allows — and that is a conversation worth having before you buy. Tap any timber below for its price and details, or tell us the job and we will point you at the one that suits it.
Burma Teak
The benchmark teak. Dense, rich golden-brown, high in natural oil, and exceptionally stable once seasoned. Resists termites and moisture better than anything else on this page. Top of the range in both quality and rate.
Ghana Teak
West African teak, Regular grade — most of teak's working qualities at a far more workable rate. Our most practical choice for door frames and everyday furniture, painted or hidden joinery.
Ghana Teak Special
The higher grade of Ghana teak — cleaner, straighter grain and fewer knots than Regular, for work where the timber is seen and clear-polished. Same species and durability, a small step up in rate.
Sudan Teak
Hard, durable African teak, a notch above Ghana in the market — dependable for frames and structural joinery. A solid middle option when Burma is beyond budget but the work still needs genuine teak.
Ivory Coast Teak
African teak from the Ivory Coast — known in the trade as CP teak. Genuine teak durability at the budget end of the teak range, for frames and furniture on a tighter budget.
Meranti
A reddish hardwood that works easily and takes polish well. Lighter and softer than teak, and priced well below it. Good for interior furniture, panelling, beading and framing where teak would be overkill.
White Ash
Pale, tough and springy, with a bold open grain that finishes beautifully in clear polish. Popular for contemporary furniture and light-toned interiors where teak's colour would be too heavy.
Pine Wood
The budget end of the range. Light, soft and easy to work, which makes it the usual pick for packing, framing, temporary structures and painted interior work. Not for wet areas or heavy load-bearing.
NZ / German Pine
Imported pine — cleaner, more knot-controlled and better seasoned than local pine. Furniture-carcass and moulding grade softwood for internals, mouldings and window components.
How We Supply Timber
Timber is not sold like a plywood sheet. There is no standard 8×4 — every piece is cut to what the job needs, and it is priced by volume rather than area. Three ways it usually leaves our counter:
🚪 Door & Window Frames (Chaukhat)
The classic use for teak in Ahmedabad. We cut frame sections to your sizes in Burma, Ghana or Sudan teak. Bring your measurements — or WhatsApp them — and we quote against the actual requirement.
📏 Sawn Planks & Beams
Lumber sold by cubic foot (ghan foot) for carpenters who prefer to cut down themselves. Available across all six timbers in a range of thicknesses and lengths.
🪚 Furniture-Grade Cut Sizes
Pre-cut to your requirement for furniture, carving and panelling work — less wastage on site and less time at the saw for your carpenter.
Timber Rates in Ahmedabad
Timber is priced by the cubic foot — ghan foot, as it is usually asked for at the counter — not by the square foot like plywood. Here is the honest range across everything we stock:
Pine and Meranti sit at the entry end of that range. Ivory Coast and Ghana teak fall in the middle. Sudan teak and White Ash sit toward the upper end. Burma teak sits at the top. Where your piece lands depends on the timber, the section size and the grade — so the number that matters is the one for your actual requirement, not a website average. What Our Timber Is Used For
Door & Window Frames
Teak's natural oils resist termites and monsoon swelling — which is why chaukhat work has been teak's job for generations.
Furniture
Solid-wood beds, dining tables, wardrobes and cabinetry, in teak for longevity or Meranti and Ash for lighter budgets and tones.
Flooring
Solid timber flooring and skirting where hardwood durability and a natural grain finish are wanted underfoot.
Wall Panelling
Natural wood panelling and cladding for feature walls, reception areas and headboards.
Partitioning
Timber framing for wall partitions and false ceilings — the structure behind the finish.
Carving & Moulding
Teak and Meranti both carve cleanly, for jharokhas, temple work, beading and decorative mouldings.
Why Buy Your Timber From Samta
Properly Seasoned
Unseasoned timber twists and opens joints months after the carpenter leaves. Ours is seasoned before it reaches you.
