Popular Door Laminate Designs

Teak & walnut woodgrain

The classic door look, especially for main doors. A texture that follows the grain looks closest to real timber.

Light oak & ash

Bright, modern bedroom doors that match light wardrobes.

Matte solids

White, grey, greige or sage doors for a clean, contemporary interior, often with a black handle.

Grooved & two-tone

CNC grooves or a two-tone split, such as woodgrain with a solid inlay strip. Ideas in main door designs.

Five Rules for Laminated Doors

01 · Both faces

Always laminate both sides

A door laminated on one face only can warp. Use the same laminate, or a cheaper one of equal thickness, on the other side.

02 · Thickness

1 mm for busy doors

Main, kitchen and bathroom doors take knocks, so use 1 mm. 0.8 mm decorative such as Durian Italia suits low-traffic bedroom doors on a budget.

03 · Grain

Run it vertically

Vertical grain looks natural on a door and uses the 8 ft length of the sheet with little waste.

04 · Edges

Lip and seal every edge

Use solid wood lipping or matching PVC edge band, and seal the top and bottom edges, which are most often left raw. See edge banding.

05 · Hardware

Mark before cutting

Cut for locks and handles after lamination, with sharp tools, so the laminate does not chip around the hardware.

A Note on Sun and Water

Sun: most decorative laminates are made for interiors. On a door that gets hours of direct afternoon sun, colours can fade over time. If your main door faces open sun, keep it under a canopy, ask for UV-stable or exterior grades, or consider veneer with a UV-protective polish. Water: the laminate face resists splashes, but the core does not. For bathrooms and balconies, start with a waterproof flush door and seal every edge. See are flush doors waterproof.

Laminate Cost per Door

Standard door up to 7 × 3 ft: one 8 × 4 ft sheet per face, two per door. Laminate material only, before GST.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many laminate sheets are needed for one door?

A standard door up to 7 x 3 ft needs one 8 x 4 ft sheet per face, so two sheets per door. Always laminate both faces to prevent warping.

Which laminate is best for doors?

A 1 mm woodgrain texture or matte laminate is best for main, kitchen and bathroom doors. For low-traffic bedroom doors on a budget, 0.8 mm decorative laminate also works.

What is the laminate cost for a door?

At our store, laminating both faces of a standard door costs about ₹1,790 with Durian Italia 0.8 mm, ₹2,420 with Aroma or Phenolam 1 mm SF, and ₹3,100 to ₹3,740 for mid-range and premium textures, before GST.

Can laminate be used on a main door?

Yes, on a solid-core flush or blockboard door. If the main door gets strong direct sun, keep it under a canopy or ask for UV-stable grades, because interior laminates can fade.

Is laminate good for bathroom doors?

Yes, on a waterproof flush door with 1 mm laminate on both faces and every edge, especially the bottom edge, sealed against water.
