Pooja Room Laminate Designs: Ideas, Colours and Safety Tips
A pooja unit is small, but it is the one piece of furniture most families want to get exactly right. Laminate makes it easy to get a marble, ivory or rich wood look at a fraction of the cost of stone or solid wood. It just needs a little extra care around diyas and incense.
Popular Laminate Looks for a Mandir
White marble look
Marble-print laminate gives the classic temple look without the weight and cost of stone. It pairs well with gold or brass accents.
Ivory & cream solids
Calm, bright and easy to match with any wall colour. A matte finish keeps the look soft.
Light woodgrain
Ash, maple or light teak woodgrain for a warm, traditional carved-wood feel, especially with a textured finish.
Gold & metallic accents
Metallic foil or gold-tone laminate on a small back panel or border, not the whole unit.
Jaali doors & panels
CNC-cut jaali in MDF or plywood, laminated or painted, for doors and a back screen. Ideas in plywood jaali door designs.
Backlit back panel
A light marble or cream back panel with LED profile lighting behind the idols gives a soft glow.
Vastu Colours for a Pooja Unit
| Traditionally preferred | Usually avoided |
|---|---|
| White, cream, ivory, light yellow, marble-look, light woodgrain, soft gold accents | Black, very dark brown, deep red and dark grey on large areas |
The north-east corner is the traditional position for a pooja unit. Direction-wise colours for the whole home are in laminate colours as per Vastu. Vastu guidance varies between consultants, so follow your own if you have one.
Diyas, Incense and Daily Cleaning
Diya zone
Keep flame off the laminate
Place diyas on a stone, granite or brass base, and leave clear space above the flame. Laminate should never sit directly above an open diya.
Extra safety
Consider fire retardant laminate
For the panel around the diya area, fire retardant laminate slows flame spread. Choose it from the start if lamps burn daily.
Soot & oil
Matte or texture hides it
Ghee, oil and kumkum marks show on gloss white. Matte, suede and textured surfaces hide them better and wipe clean easily.
Board
MR or BWR plywood
Use MR or BWR plywood, or BWP if the unit is near a kitchen or water. Edge-band every exposed edge. See MR vs BWR vs BWP.

Choosing Pooja Room Laminate in Ahmedabad
Marble and cream shades look very different under warm pooja lighting than under shop tube lights, so bring a photo of your space or check samples in daylight at our Lati Bazar showroom. For budget units, decorative 0.8 mm ranges such as Durian Italia work well on a low-touch mandir. For more design choice, see our 1 mm brands on the laminate dealer page. Finishes are compared in matte vs gloss vs textured laminate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which laminate is best for a pooja room?

Vastu guidance usually favours white, cream, light yellow, marble-look and light wood shades for a pooja unit in the north-east, and avoids black and very dark shades.
Is laminate safe near diyas?
Laminate should not sit directly above or beside an open flame. Keep diyas on a stone or brass base with clear space above. For extra safety, use fire retardant laminate on the panels around the diya area.
Which plywood is best for a pooja unit?
MR or BWR plywood suits most pooja units. Use BWP if the unit is near the kitchen or any water source, and edge-band every exposed edge.
How many laminate sheets are needed for a mandir?

What is the best board for a pooja unit?
MR or BWR plywood works for most pooja units, with BWP near a kitchen or water. CNC-cut MDF is popular for jaali doors and back screens.
How much does laminate cost for a pooja unit?
A floor-standing mandir with storage typically needs about 2 decorative and 2 to 3 inner sheets, roughly ₹3,400 to ₹3,900 in value brands such as Aroma or Phenolam SF with Espania inner laminate, before GST. Premium marble or foil designs cost more.
