How to Install MDF Wall Panels
Plan wiring first, then fix a batten frame to the wall so panels sit flat on uneven plaster and leave room for wires. Fix panels with adhesive and screws into the battens, and plan joints on grooves or trims. Seal and prime every edge and face before painting, then sand and apply PU or emulsion paint. Leave an air gap on damp or outer walls and use HDHMR there. For large panels that carry shelves or a TV, use 12–18 mm plywood; see plywood for wall panelling.

Common Mistakes
Painting without sealing the edges; interior MDF on a damp wall; no battens on an uneven wall; joints in the middle of a feature; and no plan for switches and lights. MDF looks best when every edge and joint is planned.
