PVC Doors: Price, Sizes, Designs and Where to Use Them

PVC doors are made from polyvinyl chloride, a plastic that does not absorb water, rot or attract termites. That makes them a favourite for bathrooms, toilets, utility rooms and balconies. They are light, need no polish, and wipe clean. But quality varies hugely, and they are not the right door for every room. Here is how PVC doors work, the designs available, and what a Flexibond 30 mm PVC door costs at our Lati Bazar store: about ₹3,920 for a 7 × 2.5 ft bathroom door.

What Is a PVC Door?

A PVC door is a door shutter made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Because there is no wood fibre or organic matter in it, water cannot soak in, so the door does not swell, warp or rot, and termites and fungus have nothing to feed on. Cheap PVC doors are hollow panels that feel flimsy; better doors have a foam-filled or reinforced build that feels firmer and holds hinges better. Flexibond PVC doors come in 24, 28 and 30 mm, the same thicknesses as Flexibond WPC doors.

PVC vs uPVC: uPVC (unplasticised PVC) is the rigid material used for window and door frame profiles, usually with glass or panel infill. A PVC door shutter is a flat door that fits in a normal frame, which is what most homes use for bathrooms.

How to Check PVC Door Quality

Press the face: a good door does not flex or sound hollow in the middle. Check the weight: a very light door is usually a thin hollow panel. Ask for the brand and thickness in writing (24, 28 or 30 mm). Look at the edges for even, sealed sides with no gaps. Ask about lead-free material, especially for homes with children. Cheap unbranded doors can turn brittle and yellow within a couple of years.

Fitting Tips

Pair a PVC door with a waterproof WPC frame in bathrooms; a wooden frame will rot at the base long before the door fails. Use three stainless steel hinges, pre-drill every screw hole, and do not over-tighten. Leave a small gap above the tiled floor, and choose a light, rust-proof latch rather than a heavy mortise lock. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of a PVC door in Ahmedabad?

At Samta Plywood Centre, a Flexibond 30 mm PVC door is ₹224 per sq ft, so a 7 x 2.5 ft bathroom door costs about ₹3,920 and about ₹5,718 with a 3 x 2 inch WPC frame, before GST and fitting. 24 and 28 mm rates are on request.

Are PVC doors waterproof?

Yes. PVC does not absorb water, so a PVC door will not swell, warp or rot. Quality still matters: cheap hollow doors can crack or turn brittle.

What thickness of PVC door is best?

Flexibond PVC doors come in 24, 28 and 30 mm. Use 24 mm for toilet cubicles and light use, and 28 to 30 mm for family bathrooms and heavier use.

Are PVC doors good for bedrooms?

They work, but a laminated flush door or WPC door feels more solid and premium for a bedroom. PVC is best for bathrooms, toilets and utility areas.

Which is better, a PVC door or a WPC door?

Both are waterproof. WPC is denser, feels more solid and holds hinges and locks better; PVC is lighter. At our store the 30 mm PVC and WPC doors are both ₹224 per sq ft.

Can a PVC door be used as a main door?

No. PVC is too light for security and heavy use. Choose teak, a 35 mm BWP flush door or a 30 mm WPC door for the main entrance.

Which frame should I use with a PVC door?

A WPC frame, so the frame is as waterproof as the door. A 3 x 2 inch WPC frame costs ₹109 per running ft at our store.
